His directorial debut, the featured documentary A Todo Color, premiered in June at The Sheffield International Documentary Festival 2016, the third largest documentary festival in the world. The film had a warm welcome from the audience, the press and the industry, and as a result it’s already scheduled to screen in several other festivals in Europe this year.

It’s always better to shock people and change people’s expectations than to give them exactly what they think you can do.   – Jonah Hill

A Todo Color – Feature Documentary

In the 90’s, during the most devastating crisis in Cuban history, a generation of extraordinary musicians had to sacrifice home to free their art, and survive.

A Todo Color preserves stories of life, music and communion between people through art using as leitmotif the personal lives and careers of these musicians (Gema Corredera, Luis Barberia, Vanito Brown, Jorge Gómez, Yadam Glez, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Roberto Carcassés, Yosvany Terry, Leandro González and Jose Luis Medina), and their connection with the generation of Cubans they represent. The film is driven by music and dives into extensive live performances by these iconic characters, captured and presented as concert film scenes.

Randy Valdes, director, has worked for years with these musicians, documenting concerts, producing music videos, electronic press kits, among other projects. The personal relationships they developed has given Randy unique access and insight into the stories encapsulated in the film.

A Todo Color is a testimony and a tribute to an essential generation of Cuban musicians who made history in the contemporary Cuban music.
